Just testing out VSCO Film!

7 Days a Week. 2 Occurrences per year. FASHION WEEK. 3 years. 5 Seasons.

 In 2008, life was taking a lot of turns. I had gone from my hometown, Lloydminster, AB/SK ,to northern Alberta, the Northwest Territories, two months in Seattle.. losing myself and finding myself again on an island, Victoria, B.C, and landing here in Edmonton.

 A friend from my hometown called me and asked me to bring the camera I had just gotten a few months prior with me to Western Canada Fashion Week. (Brandon. Thank you Always). Brandon was doing hair for Rebecka Pichoch and they snuck me in through the back door. I started taking pictures. It was inspiring, thrilling and peaked my interest..but most of all it drew me out of my shell. The season following that, Rebecka snuck me in again… I met a few photographers, made some contacts, and came back in the following year…paid my way in for 7 days and again the season after that.

That is when my persistence and passion paid off. I was asked to be part of the Official Photographers crew for WCFW. Elated. Ecstatic… Thrilled… So for 5 out of the 7 days I shot at Fashion Week… I would go to work full time whilst my gear charged and I raced back and forth between work and the trans alta arts barns. Get home at midnight each night and spend the next three or four hours until 4 am editing and uploading photos.. get up at 8 a.m and do it all over again. Because I loved it. I loved the energy, the passion of volunteers, make up artists, hairstylists and designers alike all coming together with their time, creativity and vision for one goal.

 I’m glad I was given the opportunity to do something completely out of my comfort zone. That it introduced me to a world I would fall in love with. People are fickle. Opportunities come and go. Things you love are taken away from you. But it all boils down to the fact that you were given the CHANCE… to find what you love to do… and even if it is taken away from you, the chance to pursue it isn’t..  You grow.. . you are inspired… and that can’t be taken away.

 … so I’m going through some of my favourite shots from the last season I had the opportunity to shoot at Western Canada Fashion Week… enjoy!

I came across this man’s blog today. You can check it out for yourself, his name is Charles Lucima. He is a high fashion and editorial photographer who’s work is very well done and extremely sexually enticing. His blog consists of his work as well as some interesting opinions on today’s world of photography. He also seems to make videos every now and then that have equally as amazing production quality and I would argue even more sex appeal. With that said, I felt the need to share this video.
